Australia zoo

We are still in the cyclone area with it due to cross the coast early the next morning and close to where we are but we are due to fly out this afternoon but all the planes have been cancelled for the next couple of days and as all flights are full not much chance of getting out for a while so we decide to hire a car and drive to Brisbane but we must go now as the roads are starting to flood, it been raining heavy now since yesterday afternoon, we were lucky to get a car from Hertz and one that was very comfortable too,  needed because it's a long drive.
We left about 4pm and arrived in Brisbane about 7am the next morning 4 hours of driving rain an d drizzle for a few more then clearer skies for the rest of the journey a few stops for naps and food but only short ones, so the next day was catch up on sleep.

The next day it was off to the Australian zoo, this is the home of The Crocodile Hunter, he was a bit over the top and I always found him  annoying but he did create a pretty good zoo.

Most of the animals are Australian so not too much danger to let them wander around.

The koala's are never a problem, they sleep most of the day and most of the night too.
There was a  crock show with colourful birds flying around free, glad the crocks were not free, one was huge.

The kangaroos are free in a large area where you go in double doors.

We all got a picture and they do like a pat.

A large bird area but hard to get pictures as they are all on the move.

More roos.

and koalas

you can go on a camel ride
or just sit and rest.
A south east asia section.

With Sumatran tigers, but there was only one in the display area the others were out walking and there is cubs but they were only out at certain times of the day and we missed them.

He is behind glass but come up to say hello or maybe to see if we were tasty or not.

These are the biggest paws I have ever seen.
we were not tasty so he left.

This guy was out walking with a keeper, they assured us he had just been fed but best not to get to close.
The only electric fence I saw in the Africian area, this is the newest area.

At 5pm the zoo closes and a shuttle goes around to pick up odd people still wandering around of course that was us and a few others.

  1. Oh MERCY, Merle. When I first logged on to your post, I nearly keeled over, thinking the giant lizard was in your backyard! Oh glory be, was so relieved it was in the zoo.

Your tiger shots are fabulous. Man alive, I"d be so scared that glass wouldn't hold! Yikers.

Great post. Susan p.s. Thanks so much for your visits and comments. Love them.

  4. What a fun visit. I guess I have never seen kangeroos laying down before. I always think of them as on their hind legs. How great that they send a shuttle around to pick up stragglers. I would like that! xo Diana

  8. What a lovely zoo!! Roos and Koalas -- very neat!!
Now Merle!! You shouldn't have told us that the tiger was behind glass. We would never have known, such an awesome picture!!! You could have let us think that you were THAT close to a real live tiger -- with no glass in between!!
    Great shots!!

  11. I enjoyed looking at these pictures, Merle. The Zoo is one of my favorite places to go. The crocodile, the koalas, the kangaroos - they are all wonderful, but I think the tiger caught my eye the most. They are interesting animals, don't you think?

I'm glad you had a fun time at the zoo - oh, now I want to take a visit there.
    Have a good week, Merle.

  19. I used to hate zoo's. Now I don't for the simple reason, that the animals are safe and out of harms way ... ie, men with big guns and even smaller brains.

    Excellent pics!

    1. You got a point and zoos today are much better than they were years ago more natural areas, not just pits in the ground or cages.
