Hot days in the garden and a new painting

We are having a heatwave in the centre of our country in the hottest town in Australia it reached over 50c that is according to our thermometer 120f now that's hot, no where near that here but we would have topped the 100f mark and we had a few drops of rain just enough to send the humidity up so it was hot and damp too not my favourite weather so I spent a few days doing not much at all, I just fiddled around in the garden and took photos.
My cats joined me Leroy was asleep somewhere but Kidney was restless and followed me around.

This little bloke just looks like the beer fairy.

This is a lime but it is should be a lemon.
now this is the second lemon tree, lets hope these are lemons.
but it has thorns and they are rather nasty.
another red hibiscus they are just so pretty
and my new passionfruit vine
I sitting in the back yard under the trees that's about all I can manage on a day this hot.
But I can manage to manage to move the camera around.

well I might wonder down to the kitchen for a drink, something cool

OH the bar-b-que managed to get cleaned so thats ready for another year, I wonder if it gets used this year.

Mal was sitting out the front a bit of a breeze here.

This is two days on and yesterday I started another painting I haven't done any for a while now but this year I intend to do more, this is the start.
 A couple of hours later
 getting there

Not finished yet but will let it dry for a day or two.

  1. The painting is so beautiful! I'm envious of people who can paint pictures. The last thing I painted was my bedroom furniture in 2004. I'm planning on re-staining and polishing the coffee table this year, cheaper than buying a new one and it is a very sturdy table, no sense replacing it.
Your garden has so many little shady spots perfect for sitting in.

    1. Funny thing I'm a bad house painter a bit slap happy or so the beer fairy says.
The garden is so cool in summer but it took 20 years to get that way just lawn when we moved in.

  2. Goodness you are talented. And like River, I am jealous. Love your garden too. Hot here too (though not the obscenity of 50). Not a drop of rain though. Predicted - but invisible.

    1. It's not that hot here but imagine getting a day that hot, I would spend the day sitting in the bath, we had a little bit of rain.

  4. Your painting is wonderful, Merle! The colors look so cool and inviting and the animals look very happy splashing about. Your garden also looks very cool and inviting. So many beautiful flowers! I remember living in the desert in Arizona and one summer we had 115 degrees for 3 weeks straight. We only came out at night. :) Hope it cools down for you soon. Love the Beer Fairy. xo

    1. Much cooler now, there were 3 highs over the centre of our country and something about the Indian Ocean being hotter than normal at the moment.

Glad you got some rain though it does make it humid... I kinda miss that; Love the array of tree shots, nicely done to help us feel like we are under them ourselves! And that painting is wonderful - influenced by the desire to be cool and shaded?? Look forward to seeing the finished item. YAM xx

  17. Merle! I'm very intruiged by your artwork. I saw the finished painting first ...and wondered, yours?? I hadn't read before that you painted. This is acrylic maybe?? Where did your inspiration come from; had you worked with a photo? There's a lot of thought gone into that, my compliments. Do you watch Ch. 4ME Sat and Sunday nights I think - check programme - Colour In Your Life; you would love it
