Jack's purple carpet.

This is jack short for jackaranda
She has been in flower for a couple of weeks but last night a lot of her flowers just fell off, because it's hot a lot of them will be dead by tonight so I took some pictures to share with you before they turn brown.

Leroy is just not sure this looks different to yesterday.

The only place with no flowers is the driveway.

  1. They are gorgeous. Treacherous underfoot but so beautiful. I do love your garden. Thank you.
And I hope the weather is kinder than predicted in your part of the world today. It is hot and windy here - just what you don't want.

    1. It's heating up here too, a bit of rain last night but not much and strong winds predicted in the mountains this afternoon not to good for the fires.

    1. Not yet today is to be very windy this afternoon, not what was wanted but they have been doing a lot of back burning so lets hope it's enough so the fires have nothing to burn.
      They are lovely trees.

  9. We had a large one in the garden of a house we once lived in. The flowers used to cover the decking and look beautiful. Then they went brown and were not so beautiful.

    1. I rake them up and put them in the garden for compost when they go brown.
The bees must really like them they are still visiting the flowers when they are on the ground not seen them do that before.

  10. I love the purple carpet when the Jacarandas fall. Sad that it goes slippery and brown so soon after. Most of our Jacarandas are street trees and the flowers blow away quite quickly, which is a good thing, slipping on footpaths is dangerous.

  12. Our neighbours house had a Jacaranda on the median strip and I was quite excited about it getting big enough for us to enjoy as they are so beautiful. Buuut alas the house was sold and pulled down, the new owners built a new house and pulled out the tree. Yukky house and bare median strip.
You are lucky to have such a nice mature one. I even love the flowers on the ground.

    1. We planted it about 20 years ago when were doing all the trees, it did nothing for about 5years and now it's quite big and beautiful. I would plant one out the front on the median strip but you never know with our council they are a bit funny.

    1. The fires have slowed which is good but they are likely to go again what we really need is lots of rain.
Angus come on Monday this week it was a super hot day and our place is very cool under the trees, he is moving in three weeks with his owners to a new house but will still visit, maybe not so much and for a longer time.

I adore Jacarandas and was delighted to see them emerging as I arrived back in Sydney - your Jack appears to be well ahead of his cousins up here in Hornsby though - they are only just starting to look full now. But heck they make mess when those blooms fall... YAM xx

You may get two of these. I wrote one and got distracted looking at your pictures and when I came back it was gone, although I hadn't published it. Oh well.
Can't recall what I said. I don't even know what a Jacarandas tree is. Must be lovely though. I did notice how your herbs had grown throughout the summer in the tub. Bet that was a fragrant area. Winter will be upon us next week, I hear. This week it's lovely Indian summer. I enjoy looking at the old photos. I love the one of your wedding. You were some hot babe. Still are.

  20. Wow! Merle, your yard looks fabulous with all those gorgeous purple petals carpeting it!
I know they will need cleaning up soon...but boy, they're so pretty when they first fall :-)
I'd love a jacaranda. Who knows..with all this "climate change" happening, maybe we'll get to grow them here too, lol!
    love..Trish
