On sunday the beer fair and I went into Sydney to the Capital theatre to a see the Russian ballet I asked my daughter if she wanted to go but she is very busy at the moment with the sale and moving into the new house. The beer fairy said he would like to go I was so surprised he never showed much interest in ballet and usually wondered outside when it was on TV.
It was wonderful there was humour, drama and beautiful dancing and we both enjoyed it very much, there are no photos of the dancing but that was all the better without flashing lights all the time but we stayed in town for dinner and wondered around the Queen Victorian Building, this is in my opion the most beautiful shopping area in the world at least in Sydney although the Opera house is pretty good but is not as good inside.
So I took a few snaps to share with you.
The first one is the copper roof of the huge clock.
The stained glass is wonderful.
This little stairway always delights me the pictures are a bit blurry, this is the middle.
And as you can see it's always locked and you can't go up it.
The castle clock and top floor
The building is 3 stories high above ground and 1 story below, this was taken from the top floor not easy to do when you don't like heights, done quickly so it 's not too good but you get the idea.
The shops have a few christmas decorations but the main display has not been done yet.
This little dolls house comes with a fish tank (it's under the stairs) and a back yard and garden.
and a lighted pumpkin for the Americans.
And lots of pretend pups in a row, my old boss had one of these on her desk I like the live ones best.
I don't know why the beer fairy looks so worried, I said stand there and look pretty and this is what I get but he was hungry by now.
The window on the other side
and the dome
This is the top of the stairs.
This is the grand clock on the hour it does amazing things.
The full clock
The queen herself
and the Town hall.
It is a gorgeous building - though I can't remember when I was last there. Donkey's years ago. And the windows are sublime.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that both of you enjoyed the ballet. Goodness how fit they need to be - ballet (any ballet) is not for sissies.
They restored it a while back and did a wonderful job.

Wow, what a fantastic building! I love the little dollhouse too:) What a good beer fairy you have! I don't know what sort of convincing it would take to get my husband to the ballet. I dragged him to something called Pageant of the Masters once in So. California and he was a trooper but told me to please not make him go again!
ReplyDeleteIt was his idea to come, he is exploring new things.

I'm glad the Beer Fairy went to the ballet. Good for him. My daughter and I go to every ballet that comes to town. We had a wonderful ballet teacher at the college and they put on grand performances but she is no longer there so we have to wait for traveling troupes. Sniff
ReplyDeleteI think grown women never get over their thrill of the min. doll house.
A gorgeous building. Thanks for showing.
I always loved ballet never seen it performed live before.

Wonderful architecture Merle, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt appears the Beer Faerie is not too happy about being photographed...Ah well, same here with ex-RAF flyboy. It is a very good thing I never post personal photos!
The Ballet must have been a marvelous experience...A bit of envy from this Pacific NW coast blogger...sigh...
Yes IT was wonderful, a lovely experience.

What a lovely way to spend the day :) And everything looks so beautiful, especially those windows! Hugs to you, Merle.
ReplyDeleteThe windows are truly beautiful.

The QVB is a wonderful building and we always take visitors there if we take them to Sydney. It was almost demolished in the 1960s.
ReplyDeleteI remember going there as a small child with my mother and it was a hardware store Knock and Kirby I think but it was a horrible building inside in those days.
DeleteMerle..............
Lovely old building. I see the Halloween decor was on sale.
ReplyDeleteThat was the only thing for Halloween I saw but I saw on the news last night that they put up the giant Christmas tree yesterday.
DeleteMerle...........
Well my GOSH, Merle. That was a splendorous tour! What a magnificent place and wow! Your photos were wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing. I'll bet that ballet was fabulous. So happy you got to go! Susan
ReplyDeleteYes the ballet was wonderful.

What a gorgeous place to see the ballet! It is out of this world! I am so glad that you had a great time and that your husband went along with you! Have a lovely week!
ReplyDeleteThe ballet was in the capital theatre not the QVB we couldn't take photos there, The QBE is where we went for dinner.
DeleteMerle.......
What a building! And I have to say, I'm amused at all the decorations you have for Christmas with SNOW on them in the pics. :)
ReplyDeleteI know silly is it, we never see snow and christmas is as hot as hell here.
DeleteMerle............
What a fabulous building! If I ever get back to Sydney, I'll be sure to visit there with my camera. I love the clock. I love the puppies too, I almost bought one myself a few years ago, the shop had kittens as well and I couldn't decide, but couldn't afford both, so went home empty handed.
ReplyDeleteEverything they sell is expensive but it's such a beautiful place you don't mind so much.
DeleteMerle..............
What an amazing building. That clock is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteEvery hour it does amazing things but I think they turn it off after 5 as it did nothing while we were there.
DeleteMerle..........
Oh Merle, that bring back memories of my visit to Sydney I think is must have been the 1989 trip, I was so impressed with the building and shops and glad to see it looks just as wonderful all these years later.
ReplyDeleteI always visit it when ever I can it's always a beautiful experience.
DeleteMerle.................

ReplyDeleteYes, it is a truly worthwhile visit, the QVB - and to think they nearly demolished it for some modern metal and concrete thing! You have done it credit my dear.
How wonderful to have seen the Russian Ballet. ... for some reason I have a notion your birthday as around this time of year - could this have been the occasion? Whatever it was, you certainly made the most of it! YAM xx
Originally I was going to Brisbane to see the ballet but we saw one add on TV to say they were doing three shows in Sydney so decided to go to that one, my birthday is next week so far I've had two birthday dinners will I try for three.
DeleteMerle...........
I enjoyed seeing the clock and beautiful building. Most of all, I love the doll house - I'm such a child at heart. Glad you got out and had a good time with your beer fairy.
ReplyDeleteI really like the old fashion doll house but this one having a fish tank now that was different.
DeleteMerle...........
