Bathrooms, fences and front verandahs.

My bathroom is a bit odd no real cupboards to store things so it's a bit of a hodge podge but I kind of like it.

Where as my sons has a proper vanity.
But I do like the shower it's so open which I find refreshing as I often find showers a bit enclosing.
The house on the corner is almost finished, it's not too bad but I still think it's too big for the size if the block but this guy who is moving in when finished has 4 kids so he will need the room.
These two Mcmansions I don't like at all.
We have lots of varieties in fences.
Pickets and these metal jobs are popular.

This ones side and front verandah are the fence a bit to close to the passing population for me.

the owner of this house often sits on this bench and reads the log is a footstool.
I stood under this tree often to shelter from the rain and if I  don't hurry up I will get caught again, the sky is blacking up.

This is a great fence just that little bit different, the guy who lives here is a opal miner so he is often away.
This little white fellow looks after his family when he is away.
 Almost home
My lavender is falling over because of the rain.
This is another photo of the odd house round the corner but the fence is really odd.
This is a sweet house but the fence and front lack of garden lets it down.
But I like this house and garden always looks good, needs no special care just mow and trim the lawn every now and again.
Mine is overgrown and needs attention but it's just too wet.

    1. You are right proper can be a bit boring.
The opal miners mainly live underground where they mine them at Cooper Pedy it's very hot there, maybe not such a nice job but I do like opals, they can be very beautiful.

  2. What a delightful neighbourhood you live in. Love the fences. I am not a fan of McMansions very often.
Bathrooms are a bit of a sore point here at the moment. We need ours modified so I can use the shower safely, and the initial quotes are frighteningly expensive. Hopefully when finished it will have at least a fraction of the charm yours does.

    1. We did ours when we first moved in here about 20 years ago, we had toadstools growing in the cracks in the floor, the floor was all replaced and some of the beams too, that was a big job but the beer fairy was younger then and had not heart problems so not so expensive as he did most of the work now I dread to think how much that would cost.

  3. I like your bathroom, too, Merle - especially the shower. Mine is still not finished - always waiting......Love the tour of the neighborhood and all the great fences. Looks like a nice, friendly place to live. The opal miner has a dog just like my 'Whitey'. They are all pretty ferocious little buggers. Opal is my birthstone. I really like your screen door! xo Karen

  5. So many pretty and interesting houses and gardens in your neighbourhood! I like that fence that's just a little bit different and that garden where the trees are in circles of black bricks.
Good to see the big new house is almost finished, but I don't like the stonework pillars, they look a little odd to me. I would render them same as the house.

    1. The stonework are tiles I think he added them later and there are going to be 6 lights on them, I hope he uses low voltage globes as they will be as bright as day if not.
I like the garden with the black bricks too, it's alway kept very neat.

    1. We live in a old suburb of Sydney, Paul Hogan once lived here when he was a boy well before my time, but it's working class and some have made good and some not so much and it shows in their houses.

  7. A lovely and eclectic neighborhood. I would have been out photoing the big variety of fences, too. I like the rounded pickets, myself. Trouble with fences, they need trimmed underneath.

  9. I much prefer the whimsical, overgrown and lush look in a garden. It gives one the feel of a "secret garden" where the outside world doesn't enter your mind. I love your garden!!!

  10. I have to agree with the first commenter. I also love how the colors pop out on your bathroom. Anyway, your neighborhood looks very diverse and I see some very lovely lots, though some are not so much. Hahaha! I like the garden on the second to the last part. I guess with a little bit of care and TLC, it will look even better than that. Thank you for sharing those pictures! I hope everyone is in the best of health!

  13. I enjoyed the 'walk' around your neighbourhood. I agree, that high-set house does seem quite huge for the block it sits on. I especially liked one with the front garden hosting circular gardens around the base of the trees. By the way, I think you have a lovely bathroom; nice and cosy. :)

  15. Merle,
I loved the tour of all the houses around your home. There are a lot of charming fences too. Is it an older neighborhood because I see a lot of brick? I've always loved brick houses. Your neighbor's black fence is very unique. Thanks for showing us a bit of your world, Merle. It looks like the rain is coming your way.

    love,

  16. Hi Merle,

Thank you for the neighborhood tour. I enjoyed viewing all the different styles of fences. They are very ornate. You have done a lovely job creating a storage area for your bathroom. The possibilities are endless with the open style cupboard you have.
