All about the birds.

I've not been on the internet for a few days my son was down from QLD,  he found this little fellow out the front of our place the other day very quiet and a bit stiff, most likely hit by a car hope he hasn't broke anything, yesterday he just lay in he corner, no movement at all but today he is sitting up. We sat outside with him with the door open but no go he wasn't ready to leave.
This is a cat basket but it's had more birds in it, Pidge lived in it for about 2months when he first came to live with us, he had a broken wing and leg, he was found on Roberts rd by the Beer Fairy, and came home inside his shirt, he was a terrible mess now he is a very fine bird but still never flies far from home.
,
So I watched the doves now this is Drumstick's food bowl.
This little bloke was enjoying her food
but along came Pidge, it's not even his food but he was protecting it for Drummy.
He makes himself twice the size and tells the little bloke who is boss

It doesn't work, they ignore him and their mates come around for a feed too, we were sitting not very far away watching the drama unfold, Pidge went back to his area and sulked for the rest of the day .
He is picking up a bit but still not coming out .

This was why my son was down him and the beer fairy put up new rails on the outdoor eating area, the rail were rotting out so had to be repaired, lot of work this being a landlord.

The dogs were inside they are so licky, not very old still pups really.
This morning we left the cage outside again with the door open and the little fellow was out the door in 5 minutes.
Of course the wild bird who stayed with us for a couple of days was named Mr or Mrs Larry Keats.   By the time son was ready to go home the little fellow was well enough  to go home too.
We released him early in the morning yesterday and he was off like a shot, flying ok and his mates were in trees nearby so he will be ok.

  2. Crikey ..... I'm glad the rainbow lorrikeet was ok. My 2 legged sister picked one up from her backyard where it appeared to have fallen out of the nest. She took it in and fed and nurtured it for months. The parents used to come every day and sit on the cage it was in. When it was bigger they released it to join Mum and Dad and family but it still comes home every day for a cuddle with my 2 legged sister. They are beautiful birds, aye?? The beer fairy and your son did a great job on the deck. It looks great.

Yes the deck is looking...all decked out!!! And bravo for your bird rescue; I love the lorikeets - though en masse they can be slightly pesky.... and bully for Pidge trying to rally off the doves... they too can become a bit of nuisance, pretty as they are.

Fabulous work all round then! YAM xx

    1. I pretty sure we have the same doves coming around here as they are not worried by the cats much .
      Pidge has no effect.

    1. He is a rainbow lorikeet, they are wonderful colours but very noisy, they are often in the bottlebrush out the front of our place, we think he flying in and got clipped by a truck or car.

  8. A very good result with the lorikeet. It may have just died if left unprotected. I didn't know Pidge's history. How nice that he still visits.

    1. They do need to be protected for a day or two, within 48hours he was pretty much 100%.
What do you mean visits he lives here full time we think he is not strong enough to live in the wild, he often stands on one leg and never flies very far away, he sleeps in a spot he picked on the back eves and has a shelf with his food on it, he goes for a big fly every morning but is home by lunch time and in bed as soon as it's dark.

  12. So glad the rainbow lorrikeet was ok. They are beautiful birds. Did you see the story about some meat-eating ones in Queensland? That is just plain weird. This is the link to that story - with pictures.

  16. So nice to know the lorikeet recovered, I'm glad you took good care of him/her. The new rails around the eating area look really good.
Funny to see Pidge puffing himself up to scare away the doves. They don't get scared by much when there is food available.

  17. No they take no notice of Pidge, they consider him a big windbag.
