House auction Sydney's crazy prices.

.There was a house auction just down the road from me this morning so I wondered down, Sydney house prices are crazy at the moment, lets see what this one goes for .

I do love these paperbarks they been here since we moved in.
And the treehouse on the corner has been repainted red it was pink a few months back.

The Auction was slow in starting so I went down to the creek for a look usually there are ducks down here not surprising as it's known as duck creek but today water fowls,  they were over the other side so hard to see.
Look at the rubbish, last time I was down here they had just cleaned up and it looked wonderful it just doesn't last, some people are such grubs, this is the Auburn side our side is much cleaner.

This is the house nothing special guess what it sold for $898,000.00, it was very well renovated and had a separate granny flat at the back but still that's a lot of money, the land was average size for this area, and the house fibro.
Here my house it's cute but needs a few things done to it but I like it as is, so I won't be selling.

  1. Ouch. That is a LOT of money for a fibro home. I really don't know how people break into the property market there now...

    1. It's all happened in the last couple of months, we were not so expensive a while back.

....precisely one of the reasons I could not really return to Sydney and finally 're-emigrated' to Scotland. Even on my paltry funds I was able to buy this flat outright and not have to worry ... too much... about no income... Mind you, in the cities here it is still pretty pricey right enough. I am in the equivalent of Tasmania here!!! YAM xx

    1. Tasmania is nice, I liked it there a lot but too cold for me in the winter but I guess Scotland is colder, I was in Scotland in the end of summer.

Silly EC. Our Treasurer told us how to break into the property market. Get a well paid job.

  5. That's a lot for a fibro. The granny flat would have helped get the price up. Here in Adelaide the prices depend on the suburb with the eastern suburbs being much pricier than the west and close to the city being costly too. The foothills/ Burnside area is very expensive, houses are large, blocks are large, many of those are advertised as 'luxury' properties and get bought by cashed up Chinese people. Even the advertisements in the papers have Chinese descriptions as well as English. One of our hills mansions sold today for $6.5million.

    1. The mansions here on the harbour sell for 40 million or one did the other day, it made the news, it was nice but not 40 million nice or I didn't think so.

    2. As I often say to people "a pile of bricks on a plot of dirt isn't worth all that money no matter how nice the view". I'll never understand how they justify those high prices. $40 million could buy 80 half million dollar homes or 133 $300,000 dollar homes, so 133 more families could have somewhere to live.

    3. Never understand why water views are wanted, I always want to live on a hill no problem with floods then.
Rich Chinese are buying the city homes on Sydney Harbour.

  6. I like the photos from your walk to the house for auction. The Moorhens are cute waterfowl. That is a lot for money for a house, a similar priced house here would be a mini mansion. I feel sorry for young people starting out and wanting to buy a house for themselves. My son bought a fixer upper in Pennsylvania for $79,500.
Enjoy your day and the week ahead!

    1. I often check out the real estate web sites for country NSW and you can buy pretty good houses in the country for $200,000 and fixer uppers for $50,000 to $100,00 it only in Sydney and we are not even in a posh area, we are very much working class.

  8. Is that what happened here, and when house prices crashed folks owed more money than the house was worth? Prices have come up in much of the country, but still not so much here.
I think your house is so inviting....

    1. It's likely to happen here too, but our interest rates at the moment are very low but will rise again then people can't afford the repayments and try to sell quickly then the prices will fall
If we were a young couple these days we would be living with mum and dad for a while yet.

  11. Crikey ..... Mum and dad had a house in Chatswood. They sold it about 5 years ago. They wish they still had it. They'd probably be millionaires if they did.
Your house is lovely Merle and I love those paperbarks. We have them all over the place where we live now. The estate was built on a swamp and the paperbarks love that swampy sandy soil, aye??
