Goodbye to a huge gum tree.

I  finished my painting and hung it in the lounge room.
I have a furry visitor for a while, he finds the sunny spots and warms his back.

At night he likes the lounge
We will soon be dozing, me too.
Leeroy has her spot to.
This is a massive gum tree two houses up from my back yard and they cut it down today, that's kind of sad because it was always full of birds in summer but these trees have a problem in gardens they drop branches without warning and a lot have come down and caused a lot of damage in the storms and high winds we had lately.
This guy was the only one cutting he had lots of safety ropes but that's such a dangerous job seeing he was using a chain saw.

I got this one as the branch was falling

All gone it's always been there since we lived here.
I took some sunny garden pictures too as it was such a lovely fine day for winter

Of course drummy wanted to get into the act.

The only flowers a few nodding violets.

 but still nice and green
 Well it's goodbye from Angus
Just turning cold now.

  1. Merle you painting is so nice you are so talented. It looks like a photo.
It's nice and sunny here today too. Enjoyed a nice long walk before physio appointment. Helps with back pain. Too much sewing I think.
Those gums can be very dangerous but the council here still keeps planting them close to homes. We have a huge Queensland box out the front of our house on the footpath, not very old but the thing drops loads of nuts and leaves for 6 months of the year and looks a bit precarious. The Council got a tree surgeon out to look at it and he said it's fine ? Have a nice day

    1. I love street trees, there is nothing better than on hot days walking under wide spreading branches but council must use trees that are not a danger to the surrounding area but they don't always get it right., but I miss this tree already.

    1. I'm wondering how much it cost to remove it as it was on private property, I know it was not cheap.

  3. Sad about the gum tree, we've had a lot cut down around here, mostly the pines, but the gums have been trimmed a lot.
Nice to see Angus enjoying the sunny patch.
Your painting looks good hanging there.

    1. I think because of the wild weather we have had lately big trees are now considered dangerous.

  6. Hello Merle, Angus is a cutie. My son's puppy came to visit for a few days, that was fun. Your painting looks very pretty hanging, well done. I love your Drummy and your garden looks pretty. With the gumtree gone there is a big hole there now, kind of sad to see the tree go. Have a happy day!

    1. I'm not sure this tree was very healthy as it's been there since we have been here so it is well over 23 as it was fully grown when we moved in.

  7. We've had some large old trees taken down. It's such an art, but the men know what to do with those ropes. It's incredible.

    1. I tell you I watched all morning and I was worried he would fall and with a chain saw in his hands that was a real danger, they usually use a cherry picker but no way of getting one in here.

  8. You did a great job on that painting. That set up makes me want to take a nap in your lounge, too. I love that you have a lounge. No one here has a room called that. we would call it a family room, most likely.
That is quite a tree they took down there, Merle. It is always kind of sad to see those big old trees cut down. xo Diana

It was sad that the tree was cut down.

  12. Your painting is GORGEOUS - so bright and cheery! Your little Corgi visitor is adorable. I'm always sad to see trees cut down. I always feel so bad for the birds and animals that once made it their home. We had to have the same thing done with a giant pine tree in my dad's yard several years ago. I hope you are enjoying your cooler weather :)

  13. Merle, it's sad to see trees being cut down, especially those that have been around for so long. I've never heard of the gum tree. So sorry you won't get to see the birds anymore hanging out in the tree this summer.

I have a thing for the trees, and I'm glad I got to see the gum tree before they cut it down. :~)

  14. I love your new painting, Merle - the colors of the water are beautiful! Angus looks right to home there. He seems a nice, laid back little fellow. Your gardens still look very nice, even in the winter - I love the violets. Too bad about the gum tree. It always makes me sad to see a large tree cut down. I live in logging country but I never get used to it. Hopefully the birds will find a new place to hang out close by - maybe in one of your trees!

  15. Wow, your painting is stunning... looks so nice, would add a nice touch to any room. You are pretty talented... nice pictures of the garden, love the little elephant like stand with little birds on it. Sad about the tree, but safety concerns are valid...
