The easter break

I had to do some banking on the day before the Easter break but just missed the bus home it's a great service to Merrylands one every hour unless they cancel one then it's every 2 hours but only had to wait 1hour not to bad quite relaxing really but this was the traffic the whole time I know Sydney traffic is bad but this is out in the suburbs it is getting worse by the day and there was a lot of people out and about.
This is a interesting building down the road a bit, it was a service station when we moved here about 20 years ago it was closed then knocked down, vacant for a few years about 7 or 8 then this building appeared over a long period flats or units on top and was to be a medical centre downstairs but now it's for rent so I hope something happens soon.
The beer fairy called me into the kitchen with the camera, Drummy was having a chat to the tea towels maybe she was telling me to change them they were grubby and due to be changed but when the hen notices you should change it so I did that and there has been no chats since.

I started two new paintings with small birds
 Not got too far
This is my new kitchen mat, we were home most of Easter so I sat and made this, it was cool and wet most of the time.
The floor is cement and so cold when washing up, my legs hurt and the feet are ice blocks very quickly but regular mats always end up very dirty but this one goes in the washing machine, may be I will make it a bit bigger but must get some more thick wool.

It's cooling off Leeroy just doesn't want to go outside but wants to sleep in the sun so she's found a spot to sleep.

I was doing some cleaning and came across this photo of me feeding the same birds as the one who stayed with us last week but my hair is more appealing than the food, this was up in Queensland bird park, they give you bowls of a honey and seed mixture and the birds come in from everywhere and eat out of your hand a great experience, of course this was a few years ago but the park is still going strong as far as I know.

  1. Love the lorikeet feeding. We went to O'Reilly's Guest House in the Lamington Ranges and fed crimson rosellas in a very similar way.
Goodness you are talented. The rug and the painting are both brilliant.
Not certain I would like to live on an old service station site. I am sure the petrol and the oils would have sunk into the ground...
We FINALLY got some rain yesterday. Bliss.

  3. Crikey Merle ....... Funny that Drummy reminded you to change the tea towels, aye?? Mum likes your floor rug and she is so in awe of your paintings. She can't wait to see your birds finished. She can't draw to save herself.
That bird park at Currumbin is still going strong. Mum went there for the first time when she was 17 and she's as old as dirt and it's still there. She took her kids there and now she's taking her Grandkids. Don't think she'll be taking the Great, great Grandkids.

  4. A bus every hour would drive me bananas! That's what we get on weekends and public holidays, so I try to do stuff on weekdays if I need to get somewhere by bus. If I miss one I usually start walking home and go from bus stop to bus stop and if I'm near one when a bus is coming I'll get on, otherwise keep walking. Sometimes I make it all the way home before a bus comes along.
I like the idea of Drummy chatting to the teatowels.

  5. I like your new rug, Merle - I know what you mean about being able to wash the rugs. It is hard to find washable ones that are pretty and I had to crochet one for in front of the sink, too. It is nice and convenient to take the bus - I wish we had a bus here - they cut the service last year due to lack of money. Your Drummy is so funny - chickens must have some strange thoughts. Always looking for something to peck at.. I like your new painting. You are a busy girl!

    1. I washed a few store rugs and they always come out a different size and never sit straight on the floor again so that's why I made one.

  10. what a great photo of you!! I laughed when I read that Drummy was chatting to the tea towel,, I think your husband has a great sense of humor,, I bet he is a rascal.
There are many buildings here standing vacant too, its sad, then they build new ones, makes no sense.
I really like your mat is it crocheted?

The beer fairy is a bit of a rascal always has been.
They say the average house price in Sydney will soon reach 1million dollars well that's what they say but as you see some buildings are standing vacant for quite some time it is hard to understand.

  11. Nothing worse than cold floors. When I had the bathroom redone the contractor mentioned infloor heating. One more thing to go wrong, in my opinion. My rugs are very nice.

  16. Love your mat and it's so large. I crochet rugs from old sheets but I can never do one at a single sitting. You must be terribly fast. My ranch (now sold) was a B & B so I had tons of sheets. I just mix every color together.

Your talet always blows me away. Great bird picture.
Drummy is intent on her inspection. The towel inspector.

Traffic seems to be increasing everywhere. Now, I only drive during the mid-day.
