A day out and a night at the ballet.

This friday my daughter and her partner and I went to the ballet at Sydney Opera House of course we couldn't take photos but I did take a few on the way and coming home.
This is Newtown, tiny tiny houses
And tiny front yards

My ticket.

And a picture out of a ballet book I have, as no photos were allowed and rightly so.

The old hospital across the road from my friends place, we have been watching the progress of its of it's transformation in to units the original building was heritage protected so they couldn't just knock it down and start again.
I worked there once when I lived very close by, it was ideal but I only lasted two days, it was more a old peoples home than a hospital and a lot of people were suffering form dementure, I lasted two days it was a sad place to work and I was just not made of the right stuff, I admire nurses their job is not easy, the matron was a lovely person and so were all the staff.

Great fence made to fit the tree.
And water bubbling up from the ground maybe a water main ready to burst.
Don't ask me what this bloke was doing, maybe singing a song in sign language my daughter said he was dancing but he had a crowd there so he was doing something right.

Going home after the ballet from the top of the Opera House steps, my there are a lot of steps.
Always get a picture in of our bridge.,

  2. Lovely.
It is a long time since I have been to the ballet - and I have never been to the Opera House.
Dementia is a cruel illness isn't it?

    1. The Opera house is great, been twice now.
I knew I spelt dementia wrong, I think the loss of dignity is one of the worse things and when there a are a lot of people all suffering from it together it is very sad.

  3. What a lovely evening out for you, your daughter and her partner. I enjoyed seeing all the photos. I love tiny houses! My Dad's last seven months before he passed were spent in a Dementia pod of an Aged Care home. Dad was physically debilitated due to a stroke and he had Parkinson's as well but his mind wasn't near as bad as the other residents. My heart went out to them all and the staff were wonderful to them. We grew quite attached to a few of them during the course of our regular visits. You're right, it wouldn't be an easy job to do which is why the home Dad was at transferred staff to other pods throughout the year so that they were given a break.

That bubbling water from the road is a worry. I hope they fix it quickly.

Have a lovely week, Merle. :)

  4. Oh Merle, I enjoyed going along with you. No shame at all, I too admire nurses but could NEVER function as they do. We all have our own paths and talents. Seems you are right in your personal power spot, dear <3

  5. It can be an effort but isn't it good to get out like that and see different things and have different experiences. I'm pleased to hear the hospital building is being kept and adapted to a better use.

I can see why the building is listed - very fine architecture. Am a tad 'jelly' that you got to go to the ballet; sigh; one of those things of which I have fond memories and can no longer partake. I could almost smell the autumn air and feel the see breeze standing on the steps with you... YAM xx

  9. I've never been to a ballet, I think I would be bored, they go on for a long time.
I like all the tiny houses, maybe they go back into the block a fair way so there is enough space even though they aren't very wide.
I remember working in a hospital, in the kitchen and sometimes had to deliver the dinner trays to the geriatric wards, some of those old ladies were suffering dementia. There was one who clutched a rag doll 24 hours a day, believing it was her baby daughter.

    1. This ballet had a very fast ending, the prince died and they took him off in a funeral boat rather than the one I knew about where he shoots the swan but the story changes with the ballet they are presenting, maybe they decided that's enough we are tired, time you all went home now.
Small houses are great if you are a career person with a busy lifestyle but now I'm slower and so are most of the people I know and they stay over I need a bit more room and a garden to potter around in.
All I can say is sometimes getting older is not so good sometimes.

  10. I like the fence built around the tree and the heritage hospital building still standing. I think it's great that you have access to so many interesting things to see and do in the city. I'm definitely a country person though.

    1. The beer fairy is country born and bred now a city person as he has lived here a long time, my ideal life would do both and maybe a couple of months by the sea in high summer but not possible with my finances.

    1. I have seen The Nutcracker as a child many years ago , it was a smaller version and I'm not sure it was live I think a film.
I've never understood the urge for one of those two story M'mansions on a tiny block of land there is one across the road once full of children but all grown up and moved away now only one older lady lived their alone since her husband died.

A lot of our earlier houses were built like the houses in London, Newtown is a older area so they are somewhat simular.
