RAIN at last update on what's happening.

Well it's raining and has been for about 24 hours so that's great for the garden so I'm not complaining but it means only inside activities so that's why there are two posts in three days, there was a little break so I wondered out to take some photos.
I have been in the process of painting my terra cotta pots red left over paint from the back door.
The front fence is getting painted too but for some reason that's a slow process.
Drumstick has no real home outside yet so she came into the laundry when the rain was heavy.
I have two areas that I can put her when Angus is here, this is the clothes drying area but she does go in here so I don't think she likes this area.
This is M&M's kennel when he stayed over so with a bit of modification it could be a little home for her as we don't use it any more and I was thinking of throwing it out. I will show you the creation when it's finished.
She could live next to the compost pit and worm farm that would be bliss if you are a chicken.
and this is the area she could run around in, I would like it if i was a hen.
Next door this is as far as they have got, the owner lives in the brick house you see on the other side of the fence he was wetting the cement slab everyday so it didn't dry too quickly bet you he is glad it's raining. It's going to be a big house not much garden room there.

My plumbago is just starting to flower, I have a blue and a white one, they do look lovely for quite a while when flowering.

Vegs are coming along pretty well we are eating the silver beet now.
Drumstick is bored inside so she off to explore outside.

  1. We too are getting the blessed rain. And I am welcoming it. They are promising more too - which is fine. Except that it is delaying the final clean-up from the plumbing.

Love, love, love your garden. And yes, the house next door does look like a McMansion.

    1. The rain is most welcome, they just said on the news that the bush fires are being controlled now, I surprised they are not all out.
I think it always rains when you are doing plumbing.

  2. Hi Merle, just read your previous post and this one - love your gardens, they are so lush and inviting. Glad you are getting some much needed rain. Funny about the chicken showing up unannounced. I think if I were a chicken, I would be wanting to stay. It's nice to get a visit from family. Hope the construction next door isn't too distracting - it can be a noisy thing. Enjoy the rain and I like your red pots. xo

  3. The new slab certainly is large, I see they're having a split level design there. I've noticed a lot of new homes are large enough to fill the block these days, seems most people are too busy working 100 hours a day and don't have time or inclination to be gardening.
Your garden looks lovely all rain washed. Perhaps notice which part of your yard Drumstick goes to most often and make her home there.

    1. We are on a hill so the split level makes sense, and you are right no one wants gardens much to much work they think, but it's lawn that makes the work most of my gardening is pottering around these days.
Drumstick goes where she likes but will follow me if I'm in the garden if I move things there might be insects but she doesn't like snails.

  4. Hello Merle, your garden are lovely and I love the cute Drumstick running about. I assume your plants are loving the rain, as long as it is not too much rain. Have a happy day and week ahead!

    1. We only have a 1/4 acre block which was a standard size once but now the new houses are on smaller blocks in Sydney.

  8. All that wet is wonderful; I hope Drumstick moves in for good. And is a hen.

  9. She is a hen but might be too old to lay eggs but the beer fairy whose mother had lots of chickens thinks she is not too old.

  11. A rather ironic name for Chicky poo...lol. But apt I suppose.

Plumbago, last time I saw that blooming was in the summer sweltering heat of a green house. They do not grow here, for love or money.

    1. It would be too cold where you live but you have things that turn up their toes and die when planted here.

  13. I don't envy you having to paint the fence, it's so fiddly it'll take a while to do. I need to do our garden gate (anotther extremely fiddly job) but as it's autumn here now, that can wait until another time. ;) I love the name Drumstick for your chicken, it's so funny!

  15. I do love your big garden though I'm sure it is a job to water when it is hot and dry. I'll bet your neighbour is not the only one who is glad it is raining. Your big blooming tree is very pretty too!

  18. Well you know rain is a hard thing - we need it - but not too much - but it does make your garden grow!

  19. Brown eggs too. They are the best, harder shells usually. You have good luck with your pot gardening. They demand too much constant watering and I forget. I'm sure you and the Beer Fairy enjoyed the scrambled eggs. How very organic.
