My week so far.

My daughter has taken out some of her birds nest ferns so I have taken them home, she is replacing them with lawn.
She kept one and gave me two, I have since planted them out and they are doing OK.

Boo peep turned up on Sunday wearing this odd hat which he bought for a dollar at the markets so I said put on a silly grin so he did.
We have nearly finished the home for Derrick, but Drummy likes to have a look to see if it's going ok.
Looking around to see if the structure is safe.
Not happy about this floor.
Even Pidge is overseeing the job.
Oh I guess it will do.
The beer fairy is having a smoke and water break.

The cage is furnished with logs a shelf and roof and a floor now, just the front to go.
The bathroom is coming apart slowly.

Found two beer bottles behind the walls no beer in them.
 The floor matches my laundry.
This morning Boo peep pulled out the spa bath and we found a nest of some sort in the sand under the spa bath most likely mice but this sand is very wet, the spa had become separated from the waste and there was a leaking into the sand and a leak also in the wall from a pipe, the beer fairy soldered  up the hole and all is well, the plumber is due on Monday  all should be dry by then.

As you can see the spa bath is huge it took up most of the bathroom.
And while shovelling the sand and taking it outside I noticed Derrick was very quiet, he was in his old cage sitting in the new one which was to be finished off this afternoon but to late, he has escaped, opened the door and flew away, we are all upset and hoped he would come back but no such luck so far.
Finished the sand removal and the floor is drying.
It's been a busy week and a sad one with the loss of Derrick.

Oh noooooo... a penthouse built and everything? Maybe just a bit too much activity for him - but it might also explain why you found him in the first place! You never know, once he realises what he's missing, he might yet show up. Keep the cage - it looks great and, Pidge and Drummy might move in. Golly, hope that bathroom business doesn't drag on too long for you... YAM xx

  3. I have viewed your blog before as it is on the side-bar of a blog I comment on.
Bad luck about "Derrick", the parrot - the Indian Myrna birds would by now have killed it as is their vicious ways.
Why there is not an all out campaign to rid Australia of this imported pest, is beyond me. The "greenies" are very vocal in many aspects but why not the Indian Myrna - maybe PC??? - the word Indian might upset the community but I am bloody sure that our Indian heritage home grown Aussies also wouldn't mind seeing the end of this "killer bird".
Good luck with the bathroom renovations.

    1. No sign of Derrick?????? You can't waste that great cage. I'm sure someone else will stumble in to join your family. I can't see you with just any old bird. A Maggie'd fit in well but I don't think a cage suits them.

    2. I will do my best but Drummy has a fear of hands so it's hard to touch her, lately I've been bathing her, she really likes that so I have a chance, I fear she was roughly treated in her past.

  11. A shame Derrick has flown the coop, after all the work on his new cage. Maybe Pidge or Drummy could use it instead.
Your bathroom will seem like a palace with all that space where the spa used to be.
I like the bird's nest ferns.

  12. Wow, a lot of work being done at your house, Merle. I bet that surprised you when you saw Derick's door open and that he flew away. I do hope he comes back again.

Hang in there, Merle, with all the chaos going on around your home. Home projects can be overwhelming sometimes.

  16. Oh, that's so sad, Merle! I lost my cockatiel once, but I kept calling and calling and he finally came back. Maybe he will turn up again, if he has not flown too far. Looks like you are moving along on quite a few projects. Funny about the beer bottles in the wall :) We built our house and I'm sure the 'boys' left a few artifacts, too. Nice hat on Boo and good to have the ferns. Hope Derrick comes back. x Karen
