Pumpkins.

This morning I worked on the messy area again,  me and Drummy
Cutting the pumpkin and grape vine back, had to do something it was to cold to sit around.
I found another pumpkin in Drummy sky garden, so thats four so far.
This was this afternoon after a lovely sunny morning, black as forty dogs arse holes that how the beer fairy described it, he has away with words.

But we are still having lots of sunshine, I like black skies and sun it's a great contrast.
 That was in the south
Where in the east sunny blue sky, we had about ten minutes of rain .
Leeroy and Kidney were sticking close to us.
Drummy playing in the pumpkin patch.

Pulled down the pumpkin today and found another two pumpkins that were hiding in the greenery, lots of soup coming up, wells it's the weather for it, any ideas would be good.

  1. Mmmm. Pumpkin. I never met a pumpkin I didn't like. I make, and by coincidence am having tonight, a fine pumpkin and coconut milk curry. Very mild, very flavourful.
    Drummy looks good.
And yes to black skies and sunshine. And to rain. We still need it.

    1. Very mild? I've tried mild curries before and they've been too hot for me. Perhaps you could post the recipe?

  3. Look at all those yummy pumpkins! I see lots of roasted pumpkin ahead. Soup too. not sure about pumpkin pie, that's an American thing and I've never tried it, and don't have a recipe either.
I have a recipe for pumpkin/sweet potato soup if you'd like that.

MERLE!!!! One of my most favroutists of all veges!!! You need my PUMPKIN SILK recipe!!! I am this very day itself, making a pot of it (with the sweet potato rather than carrot version).... and I make the pumpkin coconut 'curry' with very similar ingredients, substituting the coconut milk for the water, but adding in some coriander powder (and fresh to garnish), a small amount of tomato paste, plus a half teaspoon of amchoor (green mango powder). Chilli can be added if anyone wants, but the paprika generally gives enough heat. The pumpkin is left whole, rather than blending it, of course. I would normally eat this with Idlis (rice dumplings), but simply steamed rice would be just fine.

That should keep you busy for a while!!! YAM xx

Black as forty dogs arse holes. NOW that's black, Beer Fairy. Ha You never know where you'll find pumpkins. It's hard to believe that pumpkin pie is just an American thing as it's been my favorite pie all of my life. (As River said). But pumpkin is good in any form. Yummm

  7. Only pumpkin pie is made at my house, and I only eat the custard filling, not the crust, which is always soggy. Although the crispy edge of the crust is yummy. I always order pumpkin soup in restaurants, in season, but have never encountered the other recipes. Must keep an eye out.

    1. Possibly your filling is a little too hot when you pour it into the pastry. Allow it to cool more, also try part baking the pastry first. Cover the base with baking paper and fill with pastry weights, some people use rice or dried beans for this but pastry weights can be bought now too.

    2. You said custard filling, I confused is it a meal or desert.

  8. Beer Fairie's description of the day is rather good. Gardening Australia featured a pumpkin weight competition with the largest coming in at nearly half a tonne.

    1. The cats alway know when a storm is coming if it's a big one they are under the beds and don't come out till all clear again.
Is your husband a bit odd too because the beer fairy sure is.
      Yes most were hanging.

  10. LOL - I love the description of the black skies! And I quite agree, the contrast between dark skies and sun is beautiful. Enjoy your pumpkin soup! I've never made it (I'm not much of a cook), but it sounds yummy!

  12. Hi Merle, your pumpkins look great. Will you be making something good with them? The sky does look threatening, the critters usually know when some bad weather is coming. Enjoy the new week ahead!

  16. You can chop the pumpkin into chunks and freeze in bags to save for later. Roasted pumpkin and sweet potato with spinach and toasted pinenuts, olibe oil and balsamic vingar is a yummy salad.
