THE BEST OF RENO'S AND THE WORST OF RENO'S

It's a good day for walking and I'm off to visit a friend. It involves a 2klm walk to the station a 20mt train ride and a 1klm walk at the other end so I'm taking my camera and will show you some houses along the way.
This is one of my favourite houses in the area, they extended about 15 years ago but it all suits, a lot of the extensions look like a bit stuck on the top or out the back, the house is old and they have kept all the original features.

I never seen one as bad as this it seems to be in process but it's been in process for a while now, they are always adding bits and each bit makes it worse maybe they have a plan in mind and I just haven't seen it yet.
This little fellow has always been here never changes never seen anyone here always looks unloved and alone.
Even the garden looks the same a bit wild and uncared for but I do kind of like it.
There are lots of units close to the station but I like the fact they have lots of land around them, places for the kids to play.
 And lots of trees.
We have lots of storm water canals not the prettiest of places but we don't ever have floods so they do work.
This guy was digging out his palm tree and his neighbour was helping him by giving directions we all have one of those but he was a real character so I stopped for a chat, it was getting hot and I talk to everyone these days no time restrictions any more, I think he needs a rest too.

He pointed out this flower said people were always stopping to take pictures of so I did the same, it's a beauty.
Well finished my train trip now another short walk to my friends place
Always liked this house on a sunny day when it's overcast it not so nice.

This tree is pretty good but the flowers are falling it would have been wonderful a couple of weeks ago great winter colour.
Bird of paradise always looks bright and happy, lot of old two story terrace houses around here.

 Well I'm here now
Just look at that sky not a cloud anywhere and it's nearly time for lunch and boy I'm hungary, we are having home made pumpkin and potato soup and rolls an she's a pretty good soup maker.
Bye for now.

I'm with you on the buildings, Merle - particularly the Granville-Strathfield area; it has a wonderful feel of old colonialism about it. Well it did... so many units and townhouses taking over everywhere. Sydney has lots of pockets of these grand old homes still, though, so it was a delight to see the one which has been so tastefully extended I still can't see it!!!

Am a bit of soup fiend myself; you name it I'll make a soup out of it. What a lovely trip and thanks for sharing it. YAM xx

  5. That gorgeous yellow flower! In the back of my mind I know what it is, but the name won't come forward. The tree with falling pink flowers is a magnolia, now the flowers are falling the glossy green leaves should start to appear.
That unfinished house looks kind of sad, like it is being pulled into different directions by different builders. The little blue cottage looks lonely.
You've had a lovely trip, and with wonderful soup at the end of it too.

    1. The yellow flower belongs to a waxy type plant, it was smaller than the flowerhead.

  9. An interesting walk on a sunny day and a lot of house pictures. A really good assortment of different peoples idea of what they call home. I love to walk the neighborhoods too, and look at all the gardens this time of the year.

  11. What a monster of a magnolia. They are not fast growing, so I think this one must be quite old.

  12. Love going on the walk with you, Merle! The houses are sweet - I like all the brick and the tile on the roofs. The yellow flower is something I have never seen - it's pretty! The soup sounds delicious and I'll bet it was nice and filling after your long walks! xo

    1. A lot of the houses round here are federation houses built in the early 1900's some a little later, lately they been knocking them down and putting up big two story homes everywhere, I like the older ones best.

  14. What an interesting idea for a post, Merle. I really enjoyed seeing the houses. I wonder what kind of flower that is. The Birds of Paradise are pretty. I like how you mentioned no time constrictions. I'm starting to learn about that since I retired from work recently.

    1. It's not bad having time on your hands after years of being so tight on time as you are when you are working, I never had any time left and now I am enjoying it.

  15. This was a delightful virtual tour of your neighborhood. Thank you for the pictures of gorgeous florals. One time I took my students outside on a windy day and let them stand under the magnolia, (they call it the tulip tree) and let the petals rain down upon them. You should have heard the giggles.
