painting the bedroom and a cat disaster

I was wondering if it was a good idea to paint my bedroom, it was bright red and not at all soothing, so I tried yellow.
Not too good yellow has trouble covering red, this was the first coat and I didn't have a lot of paint, my son had given me some in a clear bottle so I didn't know the colour and I mixed white with it because it was very bright.

This was the second coat not much better than the first.

The original colour was a bright and lively red.

Third is looking better,  four might do it but I will run out of paint. Change of plan I think I will try grey.

Well it covers much better than yellow, this is one coat, but grey a bit boring so I will keep the yellow feature wall it's the one with two doors in it so it looks different may as well make it stand out, it great painting weather at the moment mild but sunny and dry.

This is four coats of paint.

and this is one what a difference.

Lunch time I will finish after munchies.

Well that didn't work out too well this little ginger horror somehow managed to fall in the yellow paint lucky there was not a lot left, one of her back legs is covered in paint and she is not talking to me, I have been following her around with a wet washer trying to wash it. After lunch I found my kitchen was covered in yellow paw prints and the loungeroom too, you have to work fast as this new paint dries in 30 mts.

I got a lot of it off but was trying to get a picture of what was left but kidney is not in ant mood to have her photo taken.

She is doing a bit of frantic cleaning too.

The grey works a lot better.

Only one wall to go, but I'm tired it's been a busy day,  time to veg out in front of the TV before bed.

  1. I know a bit about painting and to cover the red with yellow, you should have done an undercoat. Always do an undercoat when trying to cover a bright or dark colour with a lighter one. It certainly is a very bright red. The grey actually looks like an undercoat, perhaps eventually you could do the yellow over that if you still want another change. it's also possible that the left over yellow given to you was too old to use successfully anyway and mixing it with white wouldn't help if it was a different type of paint. I'd love to paint my walls, I even have colours picked out, but it's a rental, I'd have to get permission, I'd need someone to actually do the painting part since I can't, heavy furniture would have to be moved....there are so many reasons why I can't paint. I'll just cover the walls with pictures and photos.

    1. An undercoat would have been a good idea I never think of it with water paints only the oil based ones but then I 'm king of the quick fix alway in a bit of a hurry.
The yellow paint was old so maybe that was the problem.

  2. Painting is one of those jobs I hate doing...I'm always afraid I'll choose the wrong colour and have to do it over.

    1. The red was the wrong colour for a bedroom so I figured any other colour was better, I can live with this colour for a couple of years, maybe.

  4. Hey it looks like the room is coming along. Red is hard to cover; I did it once. It happens that gray is a very popular color right now in the U.S. and combined with yellow accents, often, so it looks like you have a good combination there, at least for this country. :-)

  6. Since Spring seems to be hanging around awhile, we are getting in the swing of things as well Merle. Painting is next on the list (living room).
All the best and hugs to Angus (tell the beer faerie not to hide your glasses or you just might hide his beer!)

    1. My next project is the bathroom roof, not a big area but it means getting up on a ladder so that takes a bit of time to get prepared for that, I have no head for heights.
What colour are you painting your living room.
      Angus says Hi.
The beer fairy is off visiting his brother for a couple of days so no comments like you missed a bit or don't you think that needs another coat.

  8. Oh, it does look good, Merle! Well worth the effort and painted feline. Poor baby! I have a gray tile floor in my hallway and laundry room and painted the walls yellow. I couldn't think of what color to paint the walls until I stayed in a hotel room with yellow and gray. I loved the combination. Sorry about the kitty mess. Can't wait to see it all done. xx

    1. It's is a good combination of colour and I like colour, lacking in new houses now they are mainly bland colours but that will go with furniture so it's easy to sell.
Poor pussy she did spend a couple of days shaking that back leg and looking at me with a annoyed look as if to say it's your fault.

  9. Sounds like an eventful time! I can totally emphathise with the whole trying to paint over a darker colour. When we moved in here the rooms were all wallpapered - some were plain and ok but the bedrooms and bathrooms were all very dated flowery patterns and trying to paint over those so the little green leaves in the pattern didn't keep popping through - sheesh. Especially as we painted them all various shades of off-white/cream - it took several coats and I was thoroughly fed up by the end. The yellow does make for a nice bright bedroom though and who would've thought grey and yellow would compliment each other that way!
Poor wee cat - I'm sure she's disgusted at getting paint all over her and no doubt blames you for her own curiousity getting her into trouble!

    1. She sure does, I am getting lots of nasty looks.
Wallpaper what fun, looks great when just done and so easy to do but you do get sick of it in time and pulling it off is a pain and painting over is a long process

  14. Grey and yellow do work well together. We had a dog who stepped in a paint tray. We should have grabbed him and picked him up, instead we yelled and he took off and made a terrible mess.
