My weekend and the week before.

This Friday I went to visit my friend, and spent the night at my daughter's and her fellows place on the way home we went to IKEA for the bathroom furniture.
But that's another post as that stuff is like a jigsaw puzzle, you bring it home in a box and spend the next couple of days trying to put it all together,  anyway wish me luck with that.
This is the Goodwin Building, looks like it should be in a country town but it's only 6 klms from the centre of Sydney, a protected building, not many like this left in Sydney, all new buildings are big blocks of units, we are running out of room so all are now going up now.

We had a few wet days lately this was about 4pm in the afternoon, big storm and so dark.
Boo peak picked up these pictures at a garage sale, in this case they were give aways, they all fell over in the big storm .
They were a bit unusual, he wants me to pain over them but they are much larger than I normally use but we will see, maybe.

Large spider, these fellows are harmless and usually take in their webs in the daytime this one was a bit late, we went out for breakfast so it was early morning.
These were lovely, but a bit too much.
Andy had trouble with his too, this was a very big breakfast.

This was in Surry Hills the city skyline is not very far away.
I like that this area it's very old you may come across a old post box there is a more modern one just next door, a bit of overkill maybe.
and trees have been here a while many twisted roots and lots of shade.
Old homes build right on the street with little bits build over the footpath.
and funny bits stuck on strange places.

The other day was very hot so this little fellow just didn't move much all day
It was a good day for watching the cat.
Me too , I read a book most of the day.
Well bye for now.

  1. That first building with the wrought iron second floor looks like it came from New Orleans. The cat looks like he comes from a book, with those dark face markings.

  2. So great to see your pics of the old buildings and even the old mail box now I know Sydney hasn't lost its soul. Gorgeous, relaxed cat! Weather hot here too with some beautiful rainstorms. We live in the foothills near Barrington Tops.

    1. Sydney will never lose it soul I hope but not happy about all the big blocks of flats going up.
The Barrrington tops is a beautiful part of our world, I often holidayed at Dungog as a child my aunt and uncle lived at Underbank many grand memories of that area.

I love that about Sydney, the mix of old and new... just hope a bit more of the old gets preservation orders stuck on - then again, there are bits that OUGHT to be brought down!!! Love the languid feline... and canvases are canvases - I'd definitely be reusing them! YAM xx

  5. I love the whisk on the wall, is that a kitchenware shop?
The spiderweb looks lovely in the sunlight and I like the old post box.
You'll think of something to paint on those canvases.
I sometimes plan to spend a day reading, but end up doing other stuff.

    1. It's funny you see something that needs attention and before you know the day is gone, I always run out of time and often doze off reading it's very relaxing.

  9. It really is the classic country pub. Great that it won't be demolished. Surry Hills is such an interesting area and you walk around snapping away all day. Our own Surrey Hills is further from the city and very boring.

    1. I was never a pub but a industrial building, I once lived just down the road from it, it has shops underneath and flats on top, I worked in the paper shop there.
I made friends with one of the ladies that lived upstairs and she invited me up for coffee one day, wonderful flats but run down inside they were under protected rents they never went up for 99years as that's how long the lease went for, that was a few years back now but I think there is a protecting order on the building now, at least I hope so.

    2. I love the idea of a 99 year lease without a rent rise, I'd have to have a clause that says my kids can take it over though.

    3. I don't think they have those leases anymore, the lady I knew who lived there only paid about $14 a week and had taken the flat over from her aunty, but it was impossible to get anything fixed you had to do it yourself, the owner wanted these leases finished and maintainance was not part of the original agreement.

I love old areas too and that post box is unique. It sure adds a lot of character
compared to the blue, blah postal boxes we have.
