Breakdown week a new hot wayer system

Well my computer died for a little while this week, seems ok now.
But many other things happened too.
Our hot water system died it has been sick for a while now.
I checked out all the ones that were now available thinking I would get a better one maybe a gas one that heated up water as you used it.
I asked for quotes on line so far nothing, they ask if you want them straight away or in a few days, well I said a few days I didn't want to be pushy but that was 4 days ago so we ending up buying one the same as what we had it just goes straight in with no modifications so here is hoping it works.
Some of the quotes I got over the phone were well over $3,000 so they are not cheap but so fat it's cost us $706.
I took some photos of the process.
The new one
 The old one.
As you can see they are very much the same.
Kidney is drinking the water leaking out of the old one
I took some garden pictures on the coffee break.

Just checking the beer fairy is cleaning, not enough room for two will come back when he is finished.

Still cleaning, that water was very rusty.
This is the mess we found after removing the old one.
Well its the day after and we have hot water, lovely hot shower last night much better than a bucket bath and we smell better too. When all the area dries out will put back the check lino.

  6. Nice to finally be able to shower again. I prefer the heaters that heat the water as you use it, I have one here and in my previous unit too, my kids have one. They're probably expensive to buy, but much cheaper to run, so my gas bill is pretty low.
I once lived in a house where the rusted out bottom of a water heater dropped out, so I can sympathise with the beer fairy and the mopping up.

    1. Yes that water is pretty bad.
They were very expensive to buy and install the guy down the road has one and he loves it but not a lot of change out of $5 thousand he said.

  7. Your things are growing well in the garden.
We bought a new hot water cylinder this year too, our hot water became very dirty.
They make a mess if they leak...thank goodness ours didn't.
Great for you to have hot water again. Sometimes we take things for granted...

    1. Are you still up north we have gone back into winter wish I was where you are.
The first sign that they are going is rusty water but we didn't have any but our old one was leaking.

  8. I had a tankless water heater in my last house. It was pricy, but cut my gas bill more than half. BUT--it made hot water, not hot water that was in a tank and became nice and cozy and made steam and felt wonderful. We called it flash fried water. You had a shower with hot water, but it was like always showering in the coldest part of the winter in an unheated bathroom.

    1. We don't have a long winter, except this year, the summer it's often warm enough to just use the cold but that's a while off yet.
As we have solar we were sticking electricity.

  9. It sounds like you are having a bit of a nightmare. I know all about losing your hot water. It always seems to happen at the worst possible time, doesn't it? Our boiler went whilst my wife was pregnant. Which would have been fine except we had planned on a pool birth at home! As luck would have it we know a very good local plumber.

  10. Good to know that you had hot water restored. It is sometimes difficult to shower without hot water and there is nothing as sweet as a nice hot shower. For the boiler however, heaters that heat water as you use it are a viable option, they use less energy and are more portable. Such a heater will not have dirt like that in the previous boiler.

  11. I had my hot water cylinder damage my wall the same way. In fact, I finally decided to acquire a water heater system. This turned out to be expensive but it’s really helped me reduce maintenance costs. I like your garden, for some reasons I’m tempted to copy some of your gardening skills and have my home look great.
