Two days of bitter cold then sunshine

I've had two days of staying inside, on the computer doing some catch up sewing and a bit of painting and listening to the radio. I must say we have some very strange people running our country, I mean "Abbort the rabbit" has always been a bit odd to me but Palmer is odder still. I am very worried about our country.
But after two days of cold cold winds and no sun, the winds are coming off snow down south and of course the internet has gone crazy half the people off my blog just disappeared but i think they are all back now so if you haven't heard from me for a few days I sorry but you have been in limbo land according to my blog.
Today we have lovely sunshine nothing beats winter sunshine.
 Even my cats are thirsty.

So I'm sitting in the sunshine watching the world go by.
My maiden hair fern is doing so well, I was told to feed it tea I must say it's working.

Next year tomatoes or so the beer fairy says I will most likely buy plants but I'm trying this way for a change.

Everything looks happy to see the sunshine, me too.

Well hello Drummy where have you been.

She now has a roof top garden as she has pulled out or eaten most things on her yard.
Only sugar cane and a maple left, she likes holes and bare dirt.
this was once my oriental garden but all gone now, but we do get lovely eggs, can't have everything.

  1. I like the little mushroom garden around the water bowl. And Drummy's rooftop garden.

    1. I've been collecting china mushrooms for a while now, the rooftop garden might get her to like flowers, but maybe not but we can try.

  2. Love your paintings, your succulents and am very, very jealous about your maiden hair. I have a brown thumb where they are concerned and have given up buying them because I have killed far too many.
We had a few chilly days too. On Tuesday it didn't reach double figures and I think it only just did yesterday. The snow on the hills is pretty though...

    1. To tell the truth this is the first maiden hair that has lived past a month you put all your used tea bags in water and use that to feed the plant if you use fresh ones it's too strong they must be used, it's worked so far. i'm not so good with ferns normally.

  3. I never knew to feed maidenhair with tea. I must try it. Although I have quite a lot of it that I dug up out of my son's garden when he moved into an old house he renovated. He didn't want it. It has grown quite well in numerous parts of our garden and tolerates all weathers. When I have bought it from nurseries in the past,it dies. Mine is probably very old and weather hardened. The plants in your garden (that drummy hasn't eated) look very healthy. We are chilly and blustery here too.

    1. Most of my plants have come from other peoples yards too stuff you buy from nurseries don't too well here, i think plants from the supermarket do better than from the nursery too.

    2. Most nursery plants are force-grown too fast so as to be ready for sale when people want them. They are usually too dry and pot-bound too. Keeps the nurseries in business because people have to keep buying new plants.

...and now my lengthy 1st comment has just been eaten by the ether... sigh. In short it was A) the world missed out for a day or two but all better now (well if you don't count comment munching) B) Pollies in general make me mad, even the ones I favour! and C) Looking all friendly and flourishing there in the 'burbs of Sydney! YAM xx

    1. I don't know why but Pollies don't need any good points or personality is the job so unpopular that the more bland or crazy you are, the better you do, all you need is ego.

  10. A nice stroll through your very healthy looking garden, Merle. Government always mystifies me. What happened to the 'will of the people', anyway? I will have to try the weak tea fertilizer treatment. Drummy knows a good salad when she sees one! We are having very cool and wet weather here, too. Summer, winter, it's all the same here. Enjoy your sun. xo Karen

    1. Most of the people here don't have any will, they are just confused it's a three ring circus here most of the time.
No rain here just cold so far today.
Le me know if the tea fertilizer works for you.

  17. That is very interesting about the tea bag fertilizer. My soil has great need of everything. I had thought that since it sat vacant for so long there would be a lot of new compost but I guess I was wrong. Plus, this has been the coldest summer that I can remember and nothing is growing well.

Sunshine.... how wonderful. That is what we all need. Enjoy it while you have it. My hens haven't started laying yet but I'm looking forward to fresh eggs. I took half the chicken area, fenced it and that is where I put my vegetable garden. They did like Drummy and destroyed the plants in their area but I moved the plants I want to keep to another part of the yard.
Take care. I always enjoy your posts.

    1. I only have one chicken and she eats certain plants so I put things in pots and moved them out of her reach but she has wiped out my wandering jew something I was never able to do and the snails too so their are advantages and eggs too.
Do they stop laying in winter, Drummy walked into my yard last September and this is my first experience with a chicken.

    1. It doesn't snow in Sydney but we have ski fields down south in the Snowy Mountains for a couple of months they get a fair amount of snow, I've been twice much to cold for me, but we get cold winds off the area and that's cold but the sun still shines a lot of the time.

  21. Merle,
I love the paintings on the wall. I especially like the one with the three ladies. Your room looks charming and cozy. Is this a spare bedroom? The cactus flower is so pretty, and that little red gnome is sweet and made me smile.

    Happy Fourth of July, Merle.
