The little house next door is no more

The digger and the portaloo arrived today they completely knocked the house down in 2hours it's just a pile of rubble now, I expect they will be back tomorrow to tidy up as it now knock off time.
Here are some photos of the machine at work it's very powerful and comes close to my fence a few times, I was a bit worried.

  1. Poor little house. I hope something nice is built in its place.

    1. We have no idea all we know it's a 1 story house about the same size as the other one.

    2. That's good, I was a bit worried about duplexes or flats going up there.

  2. Oh my. Destruction is so much faster than easier than construction isn't it? Which I find a bit sad.

    1. What I found sad was they reused nothing, they rip it down then dump the lot, they run over the timbers to break them up so they fit in the bins, there 2 huge bins there today.

    2. Possibly the timbers couldn't be salvaged, there could be old termite damage, water damage, dry rot. A lot of salvage depends on the condition of materials, not everything is suitable. If the original house was built of cheap pine it wouldn't be worth saving as old as it was. really old wood may have been more solid, oak, jarrah or mahogany, all would be in better condition and probably re-useable.

    1. I wish they would sell it, the landlord lived the other side but his wife owns it and she doesn't want to sell.

  5. Wow! What a tour de force, 2 hours! I don't imagine the kiddies or even Angus (if visiting GrandMa) enjoyed that!
Chatty crone had a good question: has the landlord shared his plans?
    Enjoy the weather!

    1. All cleaned up a completely empty block of land now.
It took longer and made more noise cleaning it up than pulling it down.

  7. That must have been very noisy and very messy! I hope the clear up operation is quick! My neighbours have had building work done all over the summer ruining my peace in the garden. Typically, they seem to have finished today just when the weather has changed to autumn!xx

  8. Hello
I watched them do the same thing to my son's house last spring. Now he has a beautiful house where the old one stood. It will be an improvement to the neighborhood to have a brand new house there.

    1. I was only worried they would build a two storied mansion but that is not happening so I'm happy.

  9. Is that worker flashing the peace sign at the camera in one of those pics? He seems to be looking right at you.

I'm sorry they're putting in a rental. WHO builds single-family houses out just to rent them? That's just nuts.

    1. The beer fairy was chatting to them and he took some of the photos, they were very friendly and very efficient, the owner lives on the other side so they went into his place for afternoon tea.

  10. It is amazing how fast they can remove structures! I would be nervous too if that got close to my fence....goodness!!!! I sometimes wonder why they can't just fix up what is there... I hope the new building is lovely for you! Have a great weekend!!!!!!

    1. I'm lost to why they did it too, the landlord lives the other side in the brick house so he has to put up with the noise and dust too, it did need a fair bit of work to bring it up to scratch but this did seem a bit drastic.
