A day out at the local gardens and zoo

The sun is shining and a cool breeze is keeping it cool enough for walking so Barb and I are setting off to check out the local gardens at Auburn, it's a lovely place and they have a small zoo and the gardens are full of peacocks that wonder around free but she hasn't been in ten years so she will notice many changes..
It's about a 3 k's to the gardens but there is a bus so we sat on the bus stop for a hour waiting no bus arrived so we started walking.

Barb has had a operation on her eyes so the are very sensitive to the sun so this is her solution until she gets new glasses rather cute.
We arrived in time for lunch but the little cafe that was there is now a art gallery and they told us there was a tennis club around the corner so we headed off.
Lunch was pretty good and to join cost $2.20 cheaper than the bus fare so I joined up.

The gardens were free today and not many people were there, no one on the gate, they have just finished The Cherry Blossem Festival ant they have a lot of visitors at that time.

Lots of waterfalls and cool areas to sit and relax.
This little fellow came up to say hello.

Not sure what this is, it's in the Japanese gardens.
This was the only water bird that came close, he wondered up sit down and posed for his picture he is a beautiful fellow.
Most of the times I have been up here there is something going on, there was a photo shoot and this peacock wanted to get into the action, the model in the blue wig just moved over and let him have his moment in the spotlight.

All the peacocks just wonder around free and I was surprised how many there were.
The pop in to visit the wallabies.
Sit on the fences at the mini zoo.
The little albino wallaby was a favourite.
This fine fellow let me get pretty close but he wouldn't open his tail.

They rock wallabies are so sweet.
This one has a joey in the pouch you can just see a little leg sticking out.

The kangaroos are relaxing, the day was warm enough for a nana nap.
And a drink

This is the entrance gate and nobody was any where around the peacocks had been out walking and were just coming back maybe they went to the club for afternoon tea.

We were thinking about going on the free bus but trouble was it only runs on Thursday it was Wednesday so a pretty long wait.

This is selfie

Another go not too good at this.

There is a  small area across the road where there are large cages of birds.

Only one peacock here maybe he was injured or didn't like people as he was the only one in a cage.
Here we have some shots of the Japanese area.

The clothes for the photo shoot, I thought it was someones washing.

Well thats it, it getting late and we have a long walk home they changed the bus route a few weeks ago we just found out, but no one  has put up a notice in the bus shelters.

  2. Oh my, what a gorgeous outing you had! The little Wallaby's are adorable! I'm not sure what a Wallaby is but they look like little Kangaroo's to me!

My ex-husband is Armenian and they believe that when a Peacock opens its tail feathers in front of you, it's bad luck...I personally think it's one of the most beautiful displays you can witness!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on my blog, they are so appreciated:) Have a wonderful weekend my friend!

    1. Wallabies are small kangaroos but they are much cuter and more timid so in the wild you don't see them often and some are endangered.
The male peacock has a truly beautiful tail I always heard they were good luck so there you go different areas have different ideas.

    1. The albino wallaby was a first for me too he wasn't here last time but they had trouble with people feeding the animals and has lost some of the animals and moved the others they now only allow children in with a attendant and the same with school parties and many signs telling you not to feed the animals and why.

  4. What a WONDERFUL excursion you took us on. A friend (who lived on a farm) had peacocks (Andrew, Margaret and Susan). She would tell you that there were a lot of peacock's because Andrew only had two things on his mind. Food was one of them.
Love the kangaroos and wallabies - they relax better than anything I know except cats.

  5. I've never heard of it and it looks wonderful. You did well to get a photo of peacock displaying his feathers. I don't think I have ever done that.

    1. Barb got a head on of the full tail by the time I got the camera out of my bag he had turned but I still like the photo.
I surpose the park is not well known it's called The Auburn Gardens.

  6. That was day long remembered. You have so many lovely photos that will remind you of the details. A long walk home. Bus companies should be more efficient and tell you when they change the times.

  8. Beautiful gardens, just love the wisteria!
My mum loved peacock feathers and had a few, but in a big vase on the back porch. She said it was bad luck to have them inside the house.

  11. You look like you had a grat day out, I liked the albino wallaby, I guess it would not survive in the wild. I have trouble with buses too, so annoying. Hilary

I don't think I've been to those gardens yet...unless it was about 30 years ago.
    Love your pics, Merle.
The one of Barb on the bridge is very much like the photo you took of her in Monet's Garden :-)
Love the peacocks and wallabies too.
So did you get inspired with any new ideas for your little Japanese garden at home?

    1. I would like a raked gravel garden but not enough room, if you haven't been for 30 years you would notice some changes there is now a forest a picnic area and I think a outdoor theatre and a Australian bush garden, we didn't have time to see it all.

    1. This is Sydney we never have kangaroos in the city or suburbs we have one huge zoo on the harbour in the city area but I live 20kms from the city centre in the suburbs and I have never see a kangaroo in this area. Out in the centre of our country there are millions of them in good times not so many in drought times but there are not many people out there, and it's very hot out there, not a lot of people want to go there so the kangaroos are still popular in zoos.

    1. I think they only keep native animals because there are no keepers often when you go there it's hard to find anyone around.
