For Ms Sparrow, my stained glass windows

These are my stained glass windows in the front bedrooms, my house was built in the 1920's and has all the original features but the kitchen and bathroom were improved on, they were pretty bad.
I love these windows but I have to be very careful with them because they use different materials now and some of the glass is no longer available so it's very hard to get them repaired, that little bubble glass on the squares next to the rose I want 1 small square of it and so far have never found the same design.

This is the whole design.
If you look close you will notice on the far side a bubble square and a rectangle piece missing, I have clear glass in there but it's hard to spot in this  photo it's a bit dark, it's a dull day today.

This little fellow was added later. There was an air conditioned here, it sat in the window made the room very dark and was very noisy.
The house around the corner threw this window out on a clean up day he was updating his house putting in new windows no old fashion stuff for him I couldn't believe my luck so I bought it home we had to build the frame up a bit but it was a pretty good fit and it had all the window fixtures on it and you can lock it off to be just open a bit so I never close it even in winter, it is set high in the wall so the air flow keeps the room well ventilated.

All my windows have these catches.

    1. My brother in law was a glass cuter by trade but he never got into stained glass windows , he said it was very hard to do but now I think its easier because they no longer use lead to join the bits together anyway you should have a go, i think it would be very satisfying to create these beautiful windows.

  2. They are lovely and the catches are very practical although not so good for security but no worse than most people's window lock in a house of that age. Casement, yes that is what they are. Casement windows.

    1. We did have someone try and break in the front window a long while back, my daughter arrived home and he pretended he was lost and looking for some street, the next day I noticed a few gouges in the frame and a strange screwdriver in the pot plants so they are not too bad for security.

  5. It is so reminiscent of my grandparent's home, built at the turn of the 20th century. Thanks.

    1. Not a lot of sun comes in the front windows because in the summer it very hot in the morning so I grew a ornamental fig vine to shade the area but at certain times it shines on the roses and thats very pretty.

  9. What beautiful windows you have! Thank you for showing them to us.
I hope you can find those missing replacement pieces. It's sad that people remodel and don't appreciate what treasures those antique stained glass windows are. I'm so glad you were able to snatch up the neighbor's cast-off window and reuse it!

  13. Whoops. Somehow the message got deleted. I had said, Merle, that I love all your windows----so pretty and unique. I love any kind of stained glass.

Thanks, too, for your visits and comments on my blog. Susan

  15. I'm sorry Merle, I'm unable to read your posts. That small, light grey font on a patterned background is impossible for me to make out. Your photos look nice.

  17. I am not very original in saying I love your windows. So, I will add in that I love the little garden pics on your sidebar. Mind if I drop in to sit and finish The Secret Keeper? It looks like the perfect spot for a read.

  19. This is why good quality kind of things, especially the old ones, are high on maintenance. Their spares are hard to find. Sometimes, they are not available in any store anymore. These windows are real treasures. Keep it well so it could live longer until the day your granddaughters will be the ones to maintain them. Great share, by the way!

  20. The rising sun glass looks amazing! That would look amazing on the glass on top of doors. The rose stains are also pretty, and using it to transition from the bubble glass to normal glass is a nice touch.

  21. Stained glasses are definitely a welcome addition to any window, especially if you can go with a certain theme for that side of the house. The visual appeal that they have will have heads turning when people pass by your home.
