Baby bird in my garden

Somewhere in this garden was a doves nest, the parents had left for some reason and left the baby behind, he was nearly full grown but not too sure of himself, we found Leroy wondering around with the little fellow in his mouth. We managed to get him free and he is ok just a shaken up so he has lived in the round cage for a week or two to get his wings right and fatten up.

We put seed in the bird bath thinking his parents might come back but haven't seen any trace of them.

I have moved more plants into the shade as the sun has been very strong lately.

Plenty of shade under the trees.

This is the little fellow who has been staying with us.

He will be let out today, he let him out last week but just sat on the ground and wouldn't try to fly,  so we will see how he goes today. The cats have to be locked inside they think he would make a nice dinner.

He seams happy in the garden, lots of birds visit but Pige is the only permanent tenant, he chases all other birds off if they stay too long.

Nothing more has died in the heat wave.

Angus was visiting yesterday even he seemed a bit pooped in the heat, it's a hot summer.

It is too hot for gardening most days so everything is getting messy, but never mind.

This is where I spend my afternoons when there is a cool breeze blowing.

  1. Oh Merle....Imagine your saving that little dove! Oh, the poor dear. Do you think she'll be able to fly? Where will she go? Will she know where to fly to? Oh, that is quite a story.

You are in the middle of a heat wave and here, this morning, the morning temp was 5 degrees on my way to an indoor pool to swim! We are in a DEEP FREEZE.

Isn't it funny how various parts of the world are so different?

Thanks for all your visits to my blog, Merle! Susan p.s. Looking at your paintings, I think you are VERY TALENTED! You are truly an artist.

    1. Hi Susan,
The little fellow is still with us yesterday was blowing a gale and today it constant rain fallout from cyclones up in Queensland, but we do need the rain. When we have a clear day we will open up the cage and see what he does.

  2. Both extremes...cold and heat...bring life to a near standstill. Your garden is such a cozy one. Hope that the little tenant will spread his wings and fly. You're so good to care for him.

    1. Hi Linda,
It's cooled down now and we are being bombarded by rain fallout from the cyclones up north so the little bird is still here it too wet and windy to let him go, his cage is out back next to Pidgs perch so they can talk to each other, Pidg does all the talking.

  8. Hi Merle

I'll send you some of our cool air - it's snowing here today with ice expected later...

Is there a way for you to increase the type size of your font - it's a little small for my eyes:) Just a friendly suggestion.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Hi Leann,
I will be expecting that cool air later today, our last two days have been pelting with rain fallout from a cyclone up north but we are heating up again.
I will have a fiddle with the font and see what I can do it is a bit little, my daughter set it up a while back and she has very good eyes.

  9. That is one very lucky little bird! He was saved by you and now is being given room and board:) I'm sure he's enjoying himself. Hopefully he recovers enough to fly away.

We're in FL and it really feels to be in the 90's today, I have the A/C on and the ceiling fans running...I wouldn't mind some cold right about now!

    1. Hi Victoria,
The little bird will be with us a few more days we had a lot of rain an it's turned a bit cold also his tail feathers are falling out,I think he is getting his adult ones now so that should help his flying.

    1. Hi Trish,
I afraid that Pidge is a bit of a bully he is not good father material.
We have had lots of rain the last two days so everything has picked up and the shade is great in summer.
